How it works

  1. 1

Upload one or more PDFs you want to protect.

  2. 2

Enter a password (at least 6 characters) and choose permissions: print, copy, edit…

  3. 3

Download the AES-256 encrypted PDF; it will ask for the password when opened.

Frequently asked questions

What encryption is used?

AES-256, the strongest standard supported by Adobe Acrobat, Chrome, Safari and modern PDF readers.

What if I forget the password?

There's no way to recover it: not even we know it, because encryption happens in your browser. Keep it in a password manager.

Is it processed in my browser or on a server?

Protect PDF uses a hybrid engine: whatever can be done in your browser happens there, with nothing uploaded; when the server is needed, files travel encrypted, are processed in memory and deleted after one hour.

Is it free? Are there any limits?

Yes: free, no sign-up, and no watermark on the result. Without signing up, each file can be up to 50 MB (up to 20 files per task); signing in for free or with PRO raises it to 100 MB, and the PRO plan expands request limits and unlocks AI tools.
